PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br /> I . Physlographlc Features <br /> This site occurs as rolling uplands and may occur at the base of <br /> sandstone bluffs. This site ranges from steep slopes to gently <br /> rolling mesas. <br /> The slope may vary between 3 to 30 percent. The direction and <br /> degree do not Influence the site. Elevation range's from 5500 <br /> to 7400 feet. <br /> 2. Climatic Features <br /> Annual precipitation Is between 12 and 15 inches. About half of <br /> this comes between April I and September 30. Optimum growing <br /> season for native plants Is April to July. Winters are cold with <br /> an average day temperature of 20 to 25 degrees F. Late May, June , <br /> and early July are usually the dry months. Spring is usually <br /> very windy. <br /> 3. Nathve (potential ) Vegetation <br /> An open stand of sagebrush and bitterbrush mixed with an abund.wce <br /> of such grasses as Indian ricegrass , needle-and-threadgrass , June- <br /> grass, squlrreltail , native bluegrass , western wheatgrass , and <br /> basin wildrye. <br /> This site Is treeless. Optimum ground cover is 25 percent . <br /> Invaders on the site are the annual fescues , annual bromes, <br /> pinyon, and Juniper. <br />
