The underground pipe does not appeaz on
any of the as-built or facility drawings.
Following investigation of the situation. it was determined that the pipe was the
NPDES dischazge pipeline for the 007A Domestic Waste Water Treatment Plant
(WWTP) Polishing Pond. During the construction activities the pipeline was ruptured
beyond repair and could not be mended unless the entire section of pipeline was
unearthed and replaced. Instead of replacing the pipeline, the discharge from
Polishing Pond 007A was rerouted. The polishing pond affluent now flows to Pond
MB-2, where it is dischazged under NPDES point 004A.
Not only did this solution avoid unnecessary surface disturbance, but it also allows a
double polishing pond system for the WWTP. As required by our NPDES permit,
WEM will continue to monitor point 007A and 004A as independent discharges. The
only change will be that the effluent from 007A will flow to point 004A prior to being
discharged off-site.
If you have any questions regarding this alteration, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Sincerely,
~~~
Bonita K. shore
Enviroamen[al Coordinator
xc: Christine Johnston, OMLR
.uco ezo.
