Assessment of Mining Impact on Wildlife
Because of the location of this operation, there should be little long-term
impact on wildlife. With proper preclamation, this area will probably be
more beneficial to wildlife after this operation than it was before.
8. Proposed Mitioation Measures, Including Reclamation for 1~~ildlife habitat.
The creation of ponds will enhance this area for some spE:cies of wildlife.
Two suggestions to improve the reclamation plan for wildlife are:: 1) a
more gentle slope than 3 to 1 around the edges of the ponds would greatly
improve the ponds for wildlife, and 2) planting Russian olive, C'.ottonwoc•d
and Wild plum on all higher areas around the ponds would also be:..of great.
value to wildlife. Tamarisk, howe~•er, should not be planted.
Prepared by: _ Jack VavhinRer, Maurice Potter Title: Wildlife Biol, W.C.O.
Date: December 16, 1977
cc: R. Taliaferro - Enviror,.
