• • iii iiiiiiiiiiiuiii
999
LAFARGE
May 5, 2000
REC~iv~®
Mr. Alan Sorenson
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: M-2000-034, Loveland Pit
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
MAY 11 2000
Dit~sion of Minerals & Geology
We received several comments regarding reclamation, during the nei;hhorhood meeting
required by Larimer County. The neighbors to the north would prefer not to have a lake
close to the road. They feel that it would encourage people to use the lakes more.
We also meet with the Flatiron Companies on April 19, 2000 to discuss the above
application. They own the portion of the property covered by phase 2 and 3 and are
concerned with some of the language in the reclamation plan also.
In the application, we state that the Flatiron property will be reclaimed as an open-water,
unlined reservoir or lowland wildlife habitat; but the grading plans and relnainder of the
text emphasizes leaving this area as an open water surface. That is not Flatiron's
intention for the property. If at all possible, they would like to limit the water exposed.
We would like to re-state that we are asking for several reclamation options for the
Flatiron property.
1) Reclaim as an open water surface as shown on Exhibit F -Reclamation Plan.
2) Fill in a portion of the pit and/or drain the pit to one of the existing lakes.
There is not enough material on-site to fill in a portion or all of this lake but
we would like to keep this open as an option, if the matenal can be unported
at a later date.
The substitute supply plan was filed with the State Engineers office showing this as an
open surface, so we have applied for the worst case scenario. There should not need to
be an adjustment in the bond calculation.
I discussed my concerns with Carl Mount and he said he thought this may need a
technical revision to [he application, but I would need to submit the information to you
for a determination. He asked that I attach a copy of the public notice that went into the
newspaper and certified mail to all of the neighbors.
WESTERN MOBILE INC., a subsidiary of Lafarge Corporation
TECHNICAL SERVICES
1590 W. 12th Ave., Denver, Colorado 80209-3410
Office: (303) 6674000 Fax: (303) 6574339
