As you may recall, a meeting was held on January 19, 1984 to
discuss this matter. In attendance at the meeting were Ph i1 Saleta, Joe
Oliver, Roy Cox, and yourself as well as Hayden Phillips and Ron Hanna from
Watec, Rocky Bowman from West Elk Coal Company and myself.
At that time, Phillips and Hanna presented slides showing the springs pres-
ently being monitored along with their recommendations concerning which
springs should be deleted and which should continue to be monitored as part of
West Elk Coal Company's hydrologic monitoring program. During the presenta-
tion, MLRD staff made their recommendations concerning which springs they felt
should remain apart of the monitoring program.
Following that discussion, you requested that West Elk Coal Company prepare a
report with photographs of the springs and related hiotographs accompanied by
the recommendations for deletion or retention made by MLRD at the January 19
meeting. Attached to this letter is the report prepared in compliance with
your request along with a map showing the sampling locations. Part 1 of the
report contains a discussion of the new spring monitoring program as agreed to
by MLRD.
West Elk Coal Company requests that you review this report as a technical
revision to the Mt. Gunnison Mining and Reclamation Plan. I have attached a
copy of the notice announcing the availability of this revision for public
review which will be published as soon as you indicate that this revision
request is complete.
Sincerely,
~r~`
Paige B~ eville
Attachments
cc: Rocky Bowman (w/out attachment)
Craig Hansen (w/attachment)
ANACONDA Mmeralf CO mpanY u a Drvuian of Gpanl¢R¢M1I~a~Com pony
iMC D~fi000 ~A 18-i]1
