TRIAPPSRI MiNiNG iNC.
October 18, 2007
CERTIFIED
RECEIVED
OCT 2 4 2007
Ms. Carla Lenkey
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Division of Reclamation,
WQCD-PE-B2 Mining and Safety
4300 Cherry Creek Dr. South
Denver, CO 80222-1530
Subject: Third Quarter 2007 Colorado Wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports
Permit No. CO-0032115
Dear Ms. l.enkey:
Enclosed are Trapper Mine's Third Quarter 2007 Colorado Wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports for the
period 07/1/07-09/30/07. During this quarter, five NPDES outfalls were active. Outfall 021 discharged
routinely throughout the quarter. Outfall 002 discharged during the last two months of the quarter. Outfalls
001, 011 and 020 discharged at the end of September in response to heary rainfall Outfalls 005, 008, 009, 022,
013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 019, 022, 023 and 024 did not discharge during the quarter, Values reported on
the enclosed DMRs represent the maximum {or minnnum as applicable) monthly/daily values generated a[ each
outfall during the quarter.
Two outfalls, 011 and 020, exceeded primary effluent limitations for TSS at 52 and 44 mg/I respectively. At the
time of sampling the site had experienced a precipitation event of 1.96 inches the previous day. This particular
event of 1.96 inches received on September 1 T" resulted in a great deal of surface runoff on the site. On the 24'"
the mine received another 0.76 inches of precipitation and 0.18 inches on the 25'" resulting in continued flows
from all active outfalls. Due to the timing of the storm event and the excessive precipitation, alternative
limitations applied to these exceedances, and were not exceeded.
Also enclosed are monthly NOAA weather summaries for the reporting period and WET test report forms as
applicable. Three outfalls were sampled for WET analyses during the quarter. Two species acute tests were
completed at outfalls 011, 020 and 021. No exceedances of WET test limitations were observed at [he tested
outfalls.
Trapper is required to maintain sediment levels in ponds at or below 60% of [he pond volume. All outfalls have
been properly maintained and no ponds exceeded the 60~ threshold for sediment accumulation. All structures
operated properly and were not compromised in any way. The exceedances occurred solely in response to
discharge caused by precipitation, therefore the alternative limitations are applicable for this event. All other
operations were properly conducted concerning the sediment control structures at Trapper Mine.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the enclosed information.
Sincerely,
;~~ ,~
Graham Roberts
EHS Specialist
GCR w/gTF.R/DMRIQaanerly Lame/3,d Q,ener ]0p'lJ
Ercbwre
r /are/ eimu, CDMG
File 109.2.1
?.O. box 787 Craio, Colorado 81626 (970; 824-4401
