Gunnison i7o. 1 Mine by West <br />Elk Coal Company (ARCO/Anaconda) on Mareh 1, 1983. Our ravj.ew of the <br />submittal shoes that the implications of the changes are n9C as simple as <br />represented, and that additional information and narrative explanation wi],1 be <br />required before the changes in the mining plan can be approved, <br />Conversations between OSM's Project Leader for Mt. Gunnison, Walter Swain, and <br />. Robert Liddle of your staff, confirmed that both agencies have identi£i.ed <br />essentially the sane issues. Specifically, these include adequate dt,spyaglon <br />of potential changes in surface subsidence and stability, replacement Of the <br />subsidence test panel with another which is suitably representative sad <br />timely, and submittal of adequate replacement mining sequence and timzng maps. <br />Ocher problems may be identified as identified issues are explored. <br />Paige Beville at Anaconda Minerals has stated in telephone conversations with <br />my staff, that BLM has accepted the proposed changes in coal recovery. {ie <br />have not yet received confirmation from BLP1. Please keep us informed of <br />events as CMLRD reviews this proposed change.
