13
• STATISTICAL TREATMENT: TEST RESULTS
STATISTICAL COMPUTATIONS
Rumber. The number (R) refers to the total number of
tests which are being considered as the sample.
Range. The range (R) refers to the spread of the test
values. The lowest and highest values are stated.
Mean. The mean (x) is the arithmetic average of the test
results being considered. It is computed using standard sta-
tistical methods.
Standard Deviation. The standard deviation (Ss) is a
measure of the dispersion of the test results about their mean.
It is computed using standard statistical methods.
Correlation Coefficient. The correlation coefficient (r)
is a measure of the "goodness of fit" of data to a straight line.
Values of r range from -1.00 to +1.00, denoting a negative or a
positive slope, respectively. A value of exactly -1.00 or +1.00
• indicates an exact fit while a value of 0.00 would indicate no
relationship between variables.
SI-English Conversions. Owing to the fact that all test
results have been presented in SI(Systpme International) units,
a table of English conversion units may be helpful for a more
comprehensive understanding of the result magnitudes. Such a
conversion table is presented in Table II.
Slake and Smell Codings. The slake and swell tests have
their results presented in terms of a series of codings. The
meaning of these codes, relative to the slake or swell potential,
is shown in Table III.
~SULTS SUMMARY
The computed statistics for the test results on roof, Upper
Wheeler coal, interburden, floor, Lower Wheeler coal, sandstones,
siltstones and claystones are presented in Tables IV, V, VI, VII,
VIII, IX, X and XI, respectively. The individual test results for
these units in each hole are presented in Appendices II and III.
The triaxial plots are all given in Appendix IV.
•
SEEGMILLER INTERNATIONAL
