l J
•
•
fluence the stability of any waste pile of small to moderate
height.
Based on the results of the ground water measurements,
stability analyses have generally been run assuming no ground
water within the section being analyzed. This implies that
existing ground water conditions will be maintained or im-
proved in the future. This will require the implementation of
suitable surface water control systems and long-term moni-
toring of ground water conditions to insure that the ground
water conditions assumed for analyses are met in practice.
Field permeability tests were performed in one
boring within the crushing and screening Ievel fill (B-3A)
and in three borings located in colluvium below this fill
(B-5, B-6, and B-7). The results of these tests are sum-
marized in Table A-1. Laboratory permeability tests were
performed on "undisturbed" and recompacted samples as
summarized in Table B-2. The results of all these tests
indicate that the colluvium has a low permeability,
generally in the range of 10-5 to 10-~ cm/sec. This is
consistent with the clayey character of this material.
No water quality samples were collected for chemical
analyses during our field investigation since no water was
encountered during the installation of the piezometers. The
fact that low water levels were measured in a number of the
piezometers subsequent [o our field investigation may be a
result of slow seepage through the relaCively impermeable
soils or possibly due to a small amount of water remaining
in the bottom of the piezometers due to the falling head
tests. Cotttinued monitoring of ground water levels should
clarify the origin of this water.
It may be advisable to install one or two monitoring wells
in[o the first aquifer within the bedrock. However this
installation was not in the scope of work for this part of
the project.
_ g _ cco+~rooo conwinac. iNC.
