•- <br />1/75 <br />VO-B Otero fine sandy loam, 1 to 37. slopes <br />This is a deep, well drained, moderately coarse textured soil <br />on alluvial fans <nd valley filling side slopes at elevations of 5500 <br />to 7200 feet. It formed in moderately coarse textured alluvium that <br />weathered from sandstone and has been partially reworked by wind. IC <br />has some loess influence in places. The average annual precipitation <br />+ is about 12 to 17 inches. Average annual air temperature is 45 to 50 <br />` degrees and average frost free period is 110 to 135 days. <br />1 <br />( ~ Typically the surface is a dark grayish brown fine sandy loam <br />about 3 inches thick. Tlie underlying layer is a brown (light)fine <br />sandy clay Loam or .fine sandy loam about 12 inches thick. The sub- <br />~ stratum is a bro•.m fine sandy loam that extends to 60 inches or more. <br />Included in this unit are about 10% A0, about 5% C4, and about <br />5% RS soils. There are some inclusions of Otero soil that has a clay <br />loam surface. <br /> <br />Permeability is moderately rapid. Effective rooting depth is <br />60 inches or more. Available water capacity is high. Organic matter <br />content in the surface is low. Surface runoff is slow. Erosion haz- <br />zard is moderate. <br />The soil is used for irrigated crops and dryland crops and native <br />range. . <br />Native vegetation consists of sagebrush, rabbitbrush, Indian rice- <br />grass, blue grams, and cactus. <br />... ~., <br /> <br /> <br />
