Lony
Division Director
RE: Hydrologic and Geochemical Studies and Modeling for
Carlton Tunnel Discharge Permit No. M-80-244
Dear Mr. Hardaway:
On May 23, 1997, Division personnel met with you, as CC&V representative, and your
consultants, Adrian Brown and Shepherd-Miller.
The purpose of the meeting was to lay out the framework for hydrologic and geochemical
modeling studies that would resolve the issue of potential acid rock drainage in the
Carlton Tunnel. During the meeting, the operator and consultants anticipated that the
hydrological and geochemical modeling studies would be completed and delivered to the
Division by August 1, 1997. To date, the Division has not received the studies. However,
you have indicated to me informally that the studies would not be completed until October
of 1997.
At this time, the Division requests that Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining Company
provide the studies and models by October 10, 1997. If CC&V cannot provide the
requested information by the above date, CC&V will arrange a meeting with the
consultants, Division and CC&V to explain the progress of the studies and modeling and
to determine how to proceed.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact me.
Sincerely, /
~~~~v /
Berhan Keffelew
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Michael B.
