(MCC), West Elk Mine; Permit No. C-80-007; Minor
Revision No. 323 (MR-323); Pump Placement and Construction of Steel and High Density
Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipeline from the Raw Water Intake Gallery (RWIG) to the Mine
Dewatering Building.
Dear Mr. Kaldenbach,
As a result of our telephone conversations of November 07, 2005, with you and Mr. Daniel Hernandez,
MCC is submitting this minor revision. The revision is necessary and prudent to allow MCC to pump
additional quantities of water to the underground sump and polishing pond at the dewatering building
in Sylvester Gulch. The water will then be used to help extinguish a hot spot in the 24 Longwall Panel.
The proposed project consists of placing a pump in the North Fork of the Gunnison River and pumping
water (at a rate of approximately 800 gpm to 1,800 gpm) approximately 2,400 feet to the top of the
Lower Refuse Pile (LRP) through a 12-inch HDPE pipe. At the top of the LRP the water will pass
through another pump(s) to a 12-inch steel pipe, running 2,600 feet up Sylvester Gulch and then
transitioning to 12-inch HDPE pipe running 4,980 feet to the Mine Dewatering Building. The water
will then be dropped via an existing borehole approximately 640 feet to the Panel 10 and 11 Sump.
The water will then be available to the mine dewatering pump for the polishing pond and various drill
pads over the 24 Longwall Panel for use of extinguishing a hot spot encountered in the 24 Longwall
Panel.
The attached Maps 53 and 53B show the pipeline and pumping arrangement. It is anticipated that the
pipeline will be dismantled once the hot spot is extinguished.
The azea has been previously disturbed.
<~~~;'
r
~~
.,~~J
~'~~~ ~
If you have questions regazding this minor revision and information please call me at (970) 929-2238.
