14
t
The objectives of the Allen Mine revecetation study are: •
To determine the most successful species to establish by seeding;
To determine the applied rate of nitrogen, with phosphorus
and potassium held constant, that supports the most vigorous
growth of seeded species;
To determine the effect of mulch and different mulching material,
with nitrogen fertilizer, upon the growth of seeded species;
To determine the effect of gypsum application upon the growth of
seeded species within the treatments.
Methods
r
i
1
Plot Construction
Three study plots were established at the Allen Mine to examine
different aspects of revegetation at this site. The Main Plot and the .
Species Evaluation Plot are located on a level area of the deep mine
waste dump. The Slope Plot is located 20 m north of the Main Plot on a
southeast-facino slope.
Main plot. This study was constructed in a split plot design wi*_h
three replications of eight treatments, each split by an application of
gypsum. Each subplot measures 3.65 m by 9.1 m. All treatments other
than the absolute control received a uniform application of 220 kg P~05
per hectare, as triple superphosphate, Each treatment subplot was spli*.
with ar. application of X360 kg of gypsum per hectare. The follcwir.e tre=_*_-
gents were used in 'his s*_udv:
Troar-ion-
1 Absolute Control (no fertilizer, no mulch)
2 Phosphorus Control - 220 kg P205 per hectare .
3 66 kg ~J per hectare
