SHELTON, Dlreotor
DATE: August 4, 1987
T0: Bob Liddle/Susan Mowry
FROM: Tom Schreiner
RE: BEAR COAL COMPANY - PERMIT N0. C-81-033 - JUNE WATER SAMPLE RESULTS
Brent Anderson and I collected a groundwater sample from alluvial well AA-1 on
June 11, 1987. The lab results indicate a salt concentration much greater
than what would normally be expected. Well AA-1 is adjacent to the Mine #3
sediment pond and within 50 yards of the North Fork of the Gunnison River.
The conductivity (2570 mmhos/cm) and TDS (1722 mg/1) values are suspect.
Values in the 200-500 range would seem more appropriate.
Please refer to previous correspondence between Brent Anderson and Craig
Springer regarding the construction and water quality of well AA-1. Anew
well may need to be constructed because of the poor construction of well AA-1.
/1 al
1562E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
