While some of
the figures have changed the same conclusions are reached.
Squaw Gulch could receive a total of 22.1 acres of Pad 3 material. This is an increase of 6.1
acres. However, much of this area drains to the Globe Hill and Iron Clad pits. The prior
watershed area of > 200 acres did not include this portion of the drainage area. By including
this area the watershed is > 300 acres in size. The net result would be a decrease in the
calculated nitrate concentration.
Arequa Gulch could receive an additional 24.7 acres of Pad 3 material mainly due to possible
use on roads internal to the pit. The resulting calculated nitrate concentration would be 3.2
mg/L; equivalent to what was previously predicted for Squaw Gulch.
Vindicator (Wilson Creek) watershed could receive 7.8 acres of Pad 3 material if its use is
allowed on the American Eagle road. The vast majority of this new road is within the current
permit boundary. CC&V does not have any monitoring points below this road, however, this
watershed above the Golden Cycle Mine is greater than 300 acres. This equates to less than
2.6% of the watershed area or a calculated nitrate concentration of 1.04 mg/L.
A map showing the general location of proposed Pad 3 material placement and a revised table
are enclosed.
