194
.•
site: 5MF337 (Figs 5, 55, 56).
site Type: Petrograph. _
Location: NE;SW;, Sec. 22, TSn, R92w; UTM Zone 13, E270,150m., N4,471,860m.
Description: 5MF337 is a pictograph site consisting of one panel with two
anthropomorphs and an abstract executed in red pigment on an east-facing
sheltered sandstone outcrop (Fig. 55). The site is located roughly 450 m.
west of 5MF324, another pecrograph site. The nearest water is Ralston Draw
100 m. to the south. Vegetation surrounding the site consists of sagebrush,
rabbitbrush, juniper, grasses, and buckbrush. The elevation of the site is
6800 (2,073 m.).
The rock art appears on a panel approximately one meter square. Two of
the figures are somewhat indistinct, being washed out. The third (Fig. 56)
• is clearly an anthropomorph and is in better condition because it is better
sheltered. No other features or portable cultural materials were observed.
The site is undisturbed, aside from natural weathering.
Diagnostic Artifacts: None.
evaluation: 5MF337 has no potential for yielding information important to
prehistory and should not be nominated to the NRHP. The site requires no
further action.
l
