eta

site: 5MF345 (Fig. 62).
site Type: Open lithic.
zocation: NW ;NW ;, Sec. 32, T6n, R93w; UTM Zone 13, E257,150m., N4,479,400m.
Description; 5MF345 is located on a high saddle at the west end of Duffy
Mountain. The saddle is formed in part by a meander of the Yampa River,
and partly by the drainage on the west side in which SMF344 is located. The
site is on the south end of the saddle on a north-facing slope. The eleva-
tion is 6240 ft. (1,902 m.). Vegetation at the site includes sagebrush,
rabbitbrush, bitterbrush, grasses, and cactus. The nearest water is in the
seasonal drainage to the west, approximately 100 m, away.
Cultural materials including many flakes, a scraper fragment, a chopper,

and a core were distributed over an area 50 by 180 m. There were no obvious
concentrations of materials or visible permanent features.
The site is roughly 60 m. south of a haystack used to feed cattle that
graze in the site area. A jeep trail rising from the foot of Duffy Mountain
lies at the north end of the site but does not actually penetrate the area in
which cultural materials were located. The only other disturbance is natural
since the site is exposed and located on a slope with subsequent erosion.
Diagnostic Artifacts: Core, Type I.
Evaluation: 5MF345 lacks potential for yielding information important to pre-
history and should not be nominated to the NRHP. However, the site may possess
scientific value and should be given further consideration if endangered by
future development.
