r
facing slopes of the La Flata kange. Most of the hauling will
be conducted from early ,tune to late October. Most of the
high grade material will be removed during summer and fall of
1986 and 1987.
In order to accomodate the number of haul trips per day, the
access road will require some improvement. For the most part
the roadway is in good conditions however, grading and
ballasting will be needed to maintain its condition. Grade
and route changes are not e;~pected at this time, even though,
bacF;ing will be required to negotiate some of the switchbacks.
All maintenance will be done according to methods prescribed
by the U.S. Forest Service. Since the roadway beyond the
applicant's patented claim boundaries is out of his direct
control, most of the access route is not included within the
permit disturbed area.
This access road is used to some degree by the general public
and other landowners. Signs will 6e posted to warn the casual
user of the hazards of increased mine traffic. It may be
necessary to limit/control access to reduce confrontations
between tourist traffic and the haul trucks. Several haul
trucks and crew vehicles will use the road daily.
In addition to the activities associated with reprocessing the
dump materials, the applicant will open and renovate the Upper
and Lower Combination and Avery adits and associated tunnels
(see E::hibit C - Maps). Other tunnels maybe opened depending
upon the sampling results obtained in primary underground
workings. Some are has been wasted in the old stopes and may
have some commercial value. Grab samples have shown
potentially high grade deposits underground. Systematic
sampling of underground wastes and the ore body will be
conducted initially. If these tests show promising results,
then, removal of waste rock and additional mining of the
mineral structure will commence. Waste rock from underground
will be screened so that only the better grade materials are
hauled to the mill. The wasted materials will be added to the
consolidated dumps produced during screening and removal of
the historic surface dumps.
No permanent structures will be constructed at the mine site.
Any facilities, such as a crew facility, sanitary facilities,
etc. will be portable and removed when mining has been
completed. Sanitary facilities will be provided by a local
dispenser of chemical toilets. Other personal and industrial
trash will be bagged and hauled from the site periodically.
The applicant will not hire any of the miners or truck
drivers. All mining and hauling will be on a contract basis.
The only permanent employee will be a representative of the
applicant who will supervise the general mining activities.
The contract mining crew will be advised of the particulars of
this limited impact permit application and will be required to
comply with them.
