Keffelew, Environmental Protection Specialist <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety <br />Department of Natural Resource <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 / <br />Subject: Front Range Aggregates LLC ,/ <br />Parkdale Project, Permit M-1997-054 <br />The Fremont Conservation District has received notice of the amendment being requested for the <br />Parkdale permit. <br />The Fremont Conservation District is acquainted with this gravel operation and has worked with the <br />aggregate operators in the past, particularly with noxious weed infestation control on the site. <br />We have reviewed the application information, Mining Plan and Reclamation Plan, and offer the <br />following rommentc_ <br />• Increase in size and depth of the pits will change the reclamation plans. <br />• Use of the mined out empty pits as water storage sites is a possible potential use of the mined <br />out areas. <br />• We foresee no conservation problems in the high walls, clay blanket and final slopes if <br />constructed as described in the write up and that they meet State Engineers Office <br />pertormance standards. <br />• It may be that only scant revegetation growth can be expected on the steeper reclaimed slopes <br />of the granite quarry. <br />• Continued future control of noxious leafy spurge weeds will be needed though out the site. <br />If further comments or information is needed, please contact this office. <br />Sincerely <br />/~ ~ ~ <br />l ~'~ <br />Roy R6per, <br />Soil Conservationist <br />CONSERVATION -DEVELOPMENT -SELF-GOVERNMENT <br />E-mail address: janet.barnhart@co.nacdnet.net <br />
