Section 780.21 (c) Rule 2.05.6 <br />Revised 12/3/80 <br />The change in ion balance from calcium-bicarbonate baseline water <br />to sodium-bicarbonate and magnesium-sulfate affected water will <br />cause water quality to be somewhat less suitable for stock water- <br />ing or irrigation. Elevated levels of soditun will make SAR values <br />less suitable, but not toxic. The mean value of SAR is 5.16 in <br />affected surface water, and 9.26 in shallow ground water, both be- <br />]ow the toxic limit of 12 set forth in the Nbntana Guidelines. <br />Magnesium a-rl sulfate, while relatively soluable, are not toxic to <br />plants or animals in the ~ncentrations found in affected surface <br />water or affected ground water. By replacing a cover of topsoil <br />ever the exposed overburden backfill, the magnesium-sulfate com- <br />ponent in affected surface water will be reduced. Of the trace <br />metals analyzed in the overburden and discussed under Section 779.14, <br />none of t'ze soluable elements occur in toxic concentrations, and <br />rrone occur >ln toxic concentrations in affected ground water. No <br />trace instal increases are expected to the Kerr site. In summary, <br />the quality of water will be slightly degraded by mining, but still <br />be suitable to support the post-mining land use. <br />780-126 77777 <br />
