This letter is provided as a summary of
recent mining activifies related to your well and Aggregate Industries' commitment to continue
mitigation efforts to maintain your water supply.
As Aggregate Industries' mining operations resumed earlier this year, you contacted Lu and
advised that you were experiencing a drop in the water level in your well. In response, a recharge
pond was established along the border between our propert[es in an effort to maintain
groundwater levels sufficient to provide a steady supply of water to your well. This effort
initially appeazed to help, however pumping of water from the pond during the irrigation season,
coupled with additional impacts that are occumng as mining activity at the Challenger site to the
west has progressed south and across from your property, has at times dropped the water in the
pond and reduced its groundwater recharge efficiency.
In an effort to mitigate for the insufficient groundwater recharge, you advised that a new
submersible pump was being provided to you, and installed at a lower level in the well, by the
operator of the Challenger mine. As discussed last Friday, Aggegate Industries was unaware that
you continued to experience a problem with obtaining water supplies sufficient for your needs
following installation of the new pump. _
Having been made awaze of the continuing problem, Aggregate Industries has considered
additional mitigation options. Primarily, a higher water level will be maintained in AI's pond to
the east of you to provide better goundwater recharge. The pond water level will be monitored
as part of the regulaz inspection routine at the plant, with additional water to be pumped to the
pond if necessary. As mining resumes and progresses next year, the size of the pond will also be
increased to provide a greater area of recharge.
We also discussed routing a line to pump additional water to you as necessary. As you pointed
out, running a water line is not a viable option at this time as the line would likely freeze,
Aggregate Industries
west central Region, Inc. Connie N.
