The data
collected presents a very thorough study of the area ground water, but as yet
no analysis or interpretation has been made. Seven spoil aquifer wells and
eighteen confined-unit bedrock wells were sampled from October, 1987 until
early 1990, and data on precipitation, snowpack (depth and water content),
wind speed and direction, soil moisture, and soil density are also included.
Although. I didn't examine the data in detail, several points are notable. A
number of bedrock and spoil wells, mainly in Spring Creek, showed a fairly
dramatic fall in water levels during March of 1989 followed by a slow recovery
to previous levels. Water quality data indicates that dissolved iron and
sulfate are very high in certain spoil water samples, and that the Lennox Coal
and immediate overburden may have acid properties.
WBC/yjb
9245E
