("OMI") requests an amendment to CDPS Permit No. CO-0000132
to add a new Outfall (proposed No. 016) for surface water discharge from OMI's
proposed Sediment Pond D that wilt collect drainage from OMI's new Elk Creek Mine
facilities area. OMI also requests reinstatement of Outfall No. 009 for new Sediment
Pond At. The old Sediment Pond A, formerly located west of OMI's coal storage silo
and train loadout, had been removed about two years ago and surface drainage
controlled by best management practices per a small area exemption approved by the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology ("CDMG"). The CDMG has since approved
new Sediment Pond Ai , to replace (in the same location) former Pond A. The locations
of Ponds At and D are shown on the attached OMI facilities map, and are shown on a
second map, along with OMI's other CDPS outfall locations.
Pond Ai will be a small, incised pond and is designed to contain approximately 0.067
acre-feet of storm water runoff to the level of the emergency spillway. Water from
occasional wash-down of the coal silo or train loadout buildings may also enter the pond.
The North Fork of the Gunnison River will be the receiving stream.
Pond D is designed to contain approximately 1.97 acre-feet of storm water runoff to the
level of the emergency spiilway. VJaier from this pond will be discharged into a
previously culverted segment of Elk Creek, which is tributary to the North Fork of the
Gunnison River.
Contact me at (970) 929-5834 should you have questions or require further information.
Sincerely,
,~~,~ ~~
Kathleen G.
