The Division is unclear as to how National
King Coal (NKC) personnel measure depth to water and pH. To clarify these
points, the Division suggests the following actions be implemented for all
future sampling of this well.
1) Depth-to-water should be reported as feet below ]and surface. 7o do
this, NKC personnel should measure the distance from the top of the
culvert (casing) to the water surface. The distance from the measuring
point at the top of the culvert to the land surface should then be
measured. The distance from the measuring point to land surface should
be subtracted from the measuring point to water surface measurement.
This figure is the distance from land surface to water surface.
2) pH should always be measured in the field rather than in the lab.
pH is an unstable parameter and should be measured immediately after the
sample is collected. The pH of a sample may change within two hours of
sample collection.
If you have any questions, please contact this office.
Sincerely.
PVOC/vjr
8415E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
