-. ` 1 <br />.~ <br />. _ ~ ~~~ <br />Principles derived from the growing number of studies of other regional <br />flow systems have been reviewed in the context of the geology and <br />geography of the Great Lakes Region, and potential discharge areas have <br />been listed. <br />This report is not an exhaustive, detailed study of all of the <br />factors involved in this multifaceted problem. Further research may be <br />required to answer specific questions and to determine appropriate MOE <br />response to some of the presently perceived regulatory needs and obliga- <br />tions. As noted in the Conclusions, continued use of this disposal <br />interval may require detailed consideration of individual sites. This <br />review provides a summary of past and present operational details and <br />regulatory efforts. The description of physical phenomena should help <br />provide guidelines for answering questions about the adequacy of present <br />regulatory requirements. We have made suggestions for possible amend- <br />ments to present rules and procedures. <br />3 <br /> <br />
