• Alternative Water Supply Information
To determine the uses of water within and surrounding the proposed permit boundary, born aerial
and around surveys were performed. Any diversion of surface water flows were noted.
Additionally, a survey was performed at the Stale Engineer's office to determine the surface water
users in the area. All surface water use in the area is currently for ranching uses of stock watering
and irrigation. Several windmills exist in the area and these are also used for ranching. Table
2.04.7-4 details existing water rights in the area as listed with the State Engineers office and ~Iap
2.04.7-1 identifies the approximate locations of the sites.
The Chacon Ditch crosses the main access road and the proposed rail spur embankment. LCC will
maintain culverts beneath these structures and construct a feeder ditch along the wes[ side of the
rail spur embankment [o facilitate irrigation (Maps 2.05.3-1 and 2.05.3-3, Exhibit 18).
LLC has a significant amount of water available for opera ions on the Lorencito Tract, which are
presented in Table 2.0=I.7-5. Based on the projected water needs for opera ions on the Tract,
Lorencito currenth~ plans to rely on the water rights decreed to four of the irrigation ditches
presented in Table 2.0=t.7-5, which have historically irrigated portions of the Lorencito Tract:
1. Davis and Ivtar[inez Ditch;
• 2. Martinez and Medina Ditch;
3. Rafael Cordova Ditch: and
4. Velasquez and Chacon No. 2 Ditches.
The referenced ditches currentl}' divert water from the main stem of the Purgatoire River, also
known as the Las Animas River.
The decreed locations for [he headga[es of those ditches are as follows:
1. Davis and Martinez Ditch. The headgate is located in the NE '/ , NE ''/r, Section 31,
Township 33 South, Range 66 West, 6th PM.
2. Martinez and Ivledian Ditch. The headea[e is located in the NE '/a, SW '/ ,Section 32,
Township 33 South. Ranee 66 West, 6th PM.
3. The Rafael Cordova Ditch. The headgate is located in the NE '/ , NE '/ ,Section 30,
Township 33 South, Range 67 West 6th PM.
4. The Velasquez and Chacon No. 2 Ditches. The headgate is located in Section 33,
Township 33 South. Ranee 66 Nest. 6th PM.
-•.~
1'GR ~IIT rc.~ lun. Ai ine'
'-.0=1-3? (revised 6/30/97)
