[ am
familiar with the area ttp Stone Canyon road from multiple previous visits M this area over the past two years.
It is ary understanding that this site is currently rangeland aril will continue es rangeland as the post-mining
land use. Due to the small size of the area m be excavated and the lack of any critical habitat u1 this area, [
believe that the request to extract construction materials has no significant potential to negatively impact
wildlife or wildlife habitat.
The mining site is withfit the overall range of black bear, mountain lion, elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, aril
within the winter range of elk, winter concentration area for mule deer, end wilrtering range and concentration
azea of white-faded deer. Note this site is also located within a designated mountain lion human coTleid area
The mining site is within a designated foraging area of pi:regine falwn and the wither range of bald eagle.
T am concerned for the safety of the deer in at this site if any fence is erected as some types of fencing can
be dangerous and even fatal to deer. Therefore, I recommend that if any fencing is to be tlscd during this
operation, then 1 prefer the use of/, strand fencing with a bottom strand height of 17 inches and a
mavimLm top strand height of 36 inches.
Numerous raptor species tray potentially nest in the ponderosa pine trees and rocky cliff sides found on and
around the property. I suggest that the applicant check all trees that are to be renpved and rocky cliff areas to
be mined for the presence of raptor nests prior to muting such areas. Tf nests are found I rewrrrmend leaving
intact all nest structures and support structures (trees, rocky outcrops, clifTs) and minim; disttabance to the
area T would bite to request that the Divison of Wildlife be contacted unmediately if the applicant does locate
a raptor rust on the proposed minx sae. Tn doing so, the Divson of Wildlife can then successfully work with
the applicalII so as to [ttirturri7E dis[urbartce to both the mining operation and the wildlife and wildlife habitat
doting the raptor bteedulg season
Should you feel there might be wildlife related issues which I am rot aware o£ please let me know end I will
make a sae visit. As ah+rays, it is suggested that care be taken during muting to avoid excess erosion, siltation,
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Greg WalUier, Etmeutiye DratNr
W ILDLIFE COMMISSION, Bernard L.
