CASE NARRATIVE
D4A160373
~ The following report contains the analytical results for one water sample submitted to STL Denver by
Blasland, Bouck 8 Lee from the Holcim Portland Site. The samples were received January i6, 2004,
accord(ng to documented sample acceptance procedures.
Dilution factors and footnotes have been provided on each data sheet to assist in the interpretation of the
results. In some cases, due to interferences or anatytes present above the linear calibration curve,
' samples must be analyzed at a dilution. For samples analyzed at a dilution, the reporting limits are
adjusted relative to the dilution required. Dilutions made for reasons other than the presence of target
compound(s) are addressed in the Supplemental Information Section.
' STL Denver utilizes USEPA approved methods in all analytical work. The samples presented In this
report were analyzed for the parameters listed on the methods summary page in accordance wfth the
methods indicated. DC data for these analyses are included.
' The results included in this report have been reviewed for compliance with the laboratory CA/QC plan. All
data have been found to be compliant with the exception of those items noted. The test results shown in
this report meet all requirements of NELAC. Any exceptions are ngted in the Supplemental Information
Section below.
' Supplemental DC Information
Samale Arrival and Receiot
The samples presented in this report were received at the laboratory at an elevated temperature of
12.9°C.
No other anomalies were observed.
Total Metalsl200.8/200.7/245-1
Each sample is analyzed to achieve the lowest possible reporting limits within the constraints of the
methods. Due.to high constituent concentration, the Nitrate-Nitrite and Sulfate analyses for sample MW-
10 had to be perormed at a dilution. The results in the analytical report have been flagged with a'Y]", and
the reporting limits have been adjusted relative to the dilution required.
. Percent recoveries and RPD data could not be calculated for the Calcium, Magnesium, and Selenium
MS/MSD performed on sample MW-10, due to the sample concentration reading greater than four times
the spike amount.
' The Aluminum, Iron, and Potassium, MS/MSD performed on sample MW-10 exhibited percent recoveries
and outside the QC control limits. The acceptable LCS analysis data indicated that the analytical system
_ was operating within control; therefore, corrective action is deemed unnecessary.
No other anomalies were observed
General Chemistry
Specific Conductance is present in the method blank associated with QC batch 4026470. Because the
level in the method blank is not present at a level greater than the reporting limit, corrective action is
deemed unnecessary.
No other anomalies were observed.
