• modified waste pile. As the drainages are not considered "main
drainages" (CRS 1973, Section 4.09.2), rock drains as shown in
Figure 3 shall be constructed. The upper ends of both rock drains
shall coincide with the toe of the crushing and screening level
fill.
The west rock drain shall be terminated in the west side ditch,
immediately south of the access road culvert. The east rock drain
shall be terminated below the toe of the modified west pile.
Prior to the construction of the east side rock drain, any
existing drainage from the crushing and screening level fill
surface or from any other facilities shall be diverted from this
drainage channel. Such diversion shall be made at least thirty
days prior to the drain construction.
3.6 EAST SIDE TOE BENCH. In order to facilitate the waste pile
construction at the modified waste pile east side, in the
vicinity of the east side rock drain, and to improve the
conditions of the relatively steep slope, a toe bench shall be
constructed at this site prior to the waste placement. The toe
bench design is shown in Figure 4.
4.0 REFERENCES
• 1. Orchard Valley Mine, Paonia, Colorado. Waste Rock Disposal
Site.
