pression or Cottage height reduction; howeveq Cull recovery of the gran can be npwted.
WILDFLOWER ESTABLISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE
ue to high degree of vaiiation in genotypes, ecotypes and varieties of wildflowers,
tolemnees to PLATEAU herbicide can vary dramatically and may be reduced under
certain soil types and envirorunenml conditions. Apply PLATEAU herbicide only
if some stand thinning-or loss can be tolerated. Preemergence applications of low
use rates (4 ozlA) to tolemm species, result in the least amount of injury, but may
not eliminate it Postemttgence applications of PLATEAU herbicide can result in
injury or death of some genotypes, and should be used only as a rescue veatment
when weed competition threatens the stand. Use of certain spray adjuvants can
also increase wildflower injury and loss of stand. Although most legumes listed in
[he tolerance table are tolerant to 4 or/A of PLATEAU herbicide preemergence,
some stand thinning may occur. Legumes are more tolerant to post applications,
but chlorosis or stunting is passible. Recommendations listed in the tables below
are designed for mixed gmss/wildflower stands. Less than satisfactory results may
occur from applications to monoculture stands. It is recommended m try on a
small scale to determine degree of satisfaction on monoculture stands.
For prairiegrass/wildflower mixtures: Where some wildflower injury (phyto-
toxicity, height suppression) can be tolerated, apply PLATEAU herbicide at the
rate to achieve dewed weed convol, but not to exceed tolerance rate listed in
the table below. Wildflower injury can be reduced or eliminated with preemer-
gence applications. To minimize injury, apply P[-ATEAU herbicide at 2 to 4 oz
per acct at planting [o tolerant species listed below. Use the 2 oz per acre rate
undtt cool dry conditions and in low rainfall areas. If pas[emergence appticalion
is made to established pmiriegmss/wildflower mixtures, use dte lower[ rare of
PLATEAU herbicide accessary to achieve desired weed control (roe "WEEDS
CONTROLLED" section). Postemergence application can result in stand thin-
ning or death due to vast variation in seed sources, varieties and genotypes. It is
recommended that a small area be tested prior to full application for tolerance of ~.
desired species. The rotes listed below ere far those species in which acceptable
tolerance has bean confirmed on the varieties/genotypes being treated.
Application of PLATEAU herbicide in conjunction with an organophosphate
insecticide may cause an increase in wildflower injury.
