<br />Treatment of Cut Stumps in Western States
<br />To control resprouting of salt-cedar and other Tamarix species, bigleaf maple,
<br />tanoak, Oregon myrtle, and other susceptible species,,apply undiluted Garlon 4 u
<br />wet the cambium and adjacent wood around the entire circumference of the cut
<br />stump. Treatrnents maybe applied throughout the year, however, control may be
<br />reduced with treatment during periods of moisture stress as in late summer. IJse
<br />an applicator which can be calibrnted to deliver the small amounts of material
<br />required.
<br />Note: A11 basal bark end dormant bmsh treatment methods maybe used to treat
<br />susecptible woody species on range and permanent pasture ]and provided that no
<br />more than L5 quarts of Garlon 4 are applied per acre. Iarge plants or species
<br />requiring higher rotes of Garlon 4 may not be completely controlled.
<br />Forest Management Applicatons
<br />For broadcast applications apply the recommended rate of Garlon 4 in a total spmy
<br />volume of 5 m 25 gallons per acre by air or 10 to 100 gallons per acre by ground.
<br />Use spmy volumes sufficient to provide thorough covemge of treaud foliage. Use
<br />appliwdon systems designed to prevent spray drifr tq off-target sites. Nozzles
<br />or additives that produce larger droplets may require higher spmy volume to
<br />provide adequau covemge.
<br />Plant Back Interval for Conifers: Conifrrs planted sooner than 1 month after
<br />treatment with Garlon 4 at less than 4 quarts per acre or sooner than 2 months
<br />after treatment at 4 to 8 quarts per acre may be injured. Whrn tank mixtures of
<br />herbicides an; used for forest site prcparntion, labels for all products in the mixture
<br />should be consulted and the longest recommended waiting period observed.
<br />Broadcast Treatmenu for Forest Site Preparation (Not For Conifer Release)
<br />Southern Stems lncluding Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,
<br />Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Car-~
<br />olina, Tennessee, Teras, and Virginia: To control susceptible woody plants
<br />and broadleaf weeds, apply Garlon 4 at a rnm of 4 m 8 quarts per acre. To
<br />broaden the spectmm of woody plants and broadleaf weeds controlled, apply 2
<br />to 4 quarts per acre of Garlon 4 in tank mix combination with labeled aces of
<br />Tordon 101 Mature or 7ordon K. 7ordon 10] Mixture and Tordon K are not
<br />registered for use in the states of California and Florida. Where gross control is
<br />also cleaved, Garlon 4, alone or in combination with 7ordon K or Tordon ]O]
<br />Mixture, may be tank mixed with labeled rotes of other herbicides rcgistcrcd fbr
<br />gross control in forests. Use of rank mix products must be in accordance with the
<br />most res¢ictive of label limitations and precautions. No label application rntcs
<br />should be exceeded. Garlon 4 cannot be tank mixed with any product conmining
<br />a label prohibition against such mixing.
<br />In Western, Northeastern, North Central, and Lake States (States Not Lisicd
<br />Above As Southern Smtes): 7o control susceptible woody plants and broadleaf
<br />weeds, apply Garlon 4 at a rnte of 3 m 6 quarts per acre. To broadrn the spectmm
<br />of woody plants and broadleaf weeds controlled, apply ].5 to 3.0 quaffs per acre
<br />of Garlon 4 m tank mix combination with labeled rams of Tordon 101 Mixture,
<br />Tordon K, or 2,4D low volatile ester. Tordon 101 Mixture and Tordon K arc not
<br />registcredforuse in the scams ofCalifomia and Florida. Where grass controlis also
<br />desired, Garlon 4, alone or in rank mix combination with Tordon ]0] Mixmm
<br />or Tordon K, may be applied with labeled rates of other herbicides rcgisured
<br />for gross control in forests. When applying tank mixes, follow applicable use
<br />directions and precautions on each product Label.
<br />Applications for Site Preparation in Southern Coastal Flatwoods: 7o conuul
<br />susceptible broadleafweeds and woody species such as gallberry and wax-myrtle,
<br />and for portal control of saw-paknetto, apply 2 to 4 quarts per acre of Garlon 4.
<br />To broaden the spectmm oC species controlled to include fetterbush, staggerbush,
<br />tin, and grasses, apply 2 m 3 quarts per acre of Garlon 4 in tank mix combination
<br />with labeled rotes of Arsenal Applicator's Concentrate herbicide. Where control
<br />of gallberry, wax-myrtle, broadleaf weeds, and grosses is desired, 2 to 3 quarts
<br />per acm of Garlon 4 may be applied in tank mix combination with labeled rotes
<br />of Accord herbicide.
<br />These treatments may be broadcast during site preparation offlat planted or bedded
<br />sites or, on bedded sites, applied in bands over the rap of beds. For best results,
<br />make applications in late summer or fall. Efficacy may not be satisfactory when
<br />zpplications arc made in early season prior to August. Note: Do not apply after
<br />planting pines. '
<br />Applications for Conifer Release
<br />Note: Applications for conifer release may cause tempornry~damage and growth
<br />suppression where contact with conifers occur, howeveq injured conifers should
<br />recover and grow normally. Over-the-top spmy applications tan kill pines.
<br />Directed Sprays
<br />To release conifers from competing hardwoods and bmsh such as red maple,
<br />sugar maple, striped maple, swcetgum, red and whim oaks, ash, hickory, alder,
<br />birch, aspen, pin cherry, Ceanothus spp., blackbeny, chinquapin, and poison oak,
<br />mix 4 ro 20 quarts of Gzrlon 4 in enough waur m make 100 gallons of spmy
<br />mixture. This spmy should be direcud onto foliage of competitive hardwoods
<br />using knapsack or backpack sprayers with flat fan noules or equivalent any time
<br />afrer the hardwoods and bmsh have reached full leaf sizo, but before autumn
<br />coloration. The majority of treaud hardwoods and brush should be less than 6
<br />feet in height m ensure adequau spmy wvernge. Care should be mken m direct
<br />spray solutions away from conifer foliage, particularly foliage of desirable pines.

<br />of Garlon 4 in tank mix combination with ]abded rates of Arsenal Applicator's
<br />Conccntrzte, Saw-palmetto will be partially controlled by use of Garlon 4 aL4
<br />quarts per acre or by mixtures of Garlon 4 at 2 to 3 quarts pecacre in tank mix
<br />combination with either Arsenal Applicamr's Concentrate or Escort herbicide.
<br />These mixtures should be broadcast applied over [argot understory brush species,
<br />but to prevent injury to pies, make applications underneath the foliage
<br />of pines. It is recommended that sprnys be applied in 30 or mom gallons per
<br />acre of total volume. For best results, make applications in late summer or fall.
<br />Efficacy may not be satisfacory when applications arc made in early season pdor

<br />Broadcast Applications for Conifer Release i¢ the Pacific Northwest and
<br />California
<br />On Dormant Conifers Before Bnd Swell (Excluding Pines): To control or
<br />suppress deciduous hardwoods such as vine maple, bigleaf maple, alder, scotch
<br />broom, or willow before leaf-out or evergreen hardwoods such as madronc,
<br />chinquapin, end Ceanothus spp., use Garlon 4 at 1 to 2 quarts per acre. Diluents
<br />used may be diesel or fuel oil. Or, water plus 1 b 2 gallons per acre of diesel
<br />oil or a suimble surfactant or ail substitute at manufacturer's recommended rates
<br />may be used.
<br />On Conifu Planmtions (Ezcluding Pines) After Hardwoods Begin Growth
<br />and Before Conifer Bud Break ("Early Fotiar" Hardwood Stage): Use Garlon
<br />4 at ].0 to LS quarts alone or plus 2,4-D low volatile ester herbicide tu water
<br />tamer to provide no more than 3 pounds acid equivalent per acre from both
<br />products. After conifer bud break, these sprnys may cause more serious injury
<br />m [he crop frets. Use of a surfactant may cause unacccpmble injury to conifers
<br />especially afrer bud break.
<br />On Conifer Plantations (Ezcluding Pines) After Conifers Harden Off In Late
<br />Summer and While Hardwoods Are Still Growing Actively: Use Garlon 4 at
<br />roes of LU m L5 gtuufs per acre alone or plus 2,4-D low volatile ester m'provide

<br />To release sproce, fir, red pine; and white pine from competing hardwoods such '
<br />as red maple, sugar maple, striped maple, alder, birch (white, yellow, and grry),
<br />aspen; ash, pin cherry, and Rebus spp. and perennial and annual broadleaf weeds,
<br />use Garlon 4 at rotes of 1.5 m 3.0 quarts per acre alone or plus 2,4-D amine or
<br />low volatilr, esur to provide no more than 4 pounds acid equivalent per ame from e
<br />both products. Applicadons should be made in ]ate summer or eary fall after
<br />conifers have formed their overwintedng buds and hardwoods are in full leaf and
<br />prior to autumn coloration.
<br />Broadcast Applications for Conifer Release iv the Lake State Region
<br />To release spmce, fir, and red pine from competing hardwoods such as aspen,
<br />birch, maple, cherry, willow, oak, hazel, and Rebus spp. and perennial and annual
<br />broadleaf weeds, use Gazlon 4 at rotes of IS m 3.0 quarts per acre. Applications
<br />should be made in lam summer or early fa0 after conifers have formed thew
<br />overwintering buds and hardwoods are in full leaf and prior m autumn coloration.
