There may be some confusion about Minrec's request.
Minrec wants to leave the sediment pond in place. The sediment
pond will be left in place to enhance the postmining land use of
wildlife habitat. Ponds attract may kinds of wildlife. Migratory
waterfowl often use ponds as resting places in their flights to and
from the north. This reclaimed mine site has become a refuge for
deer and elk. It is isolated and provides good forage. Keeping
the pond in place will enhance the use of the site by deer, elk and
waterfowl.
The source of water for the pond will be return irrigation water
from fields above the mine that is currently diverted around the
pond. The pond will collect surface run-off and the return
irrigation water. It may discharge at some point in the future.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerel
Jim Stover, P.E.
Consulting Engineer
cc: Dan Mathews, DMG
\VP60\RC11\CDOfl]
