• • C.

The Cache la Poudre River travels southward through the western
portion of the site and the Greeley No. 2 Canal is located adjacent to
the north edge of the property. The area consists of irrigated farm and
pasture land. The property is relatively flat and, in general, has
minor drainage to tkg southeast. A small abandoned gravel pit is
located in the nortlid'~ Darner of the property.
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS
The soil profile at the site consists of strata of materials arranged
in different combinations. [n order of increasing depths, they are as
follows:
(1) Silty Topsoil: The majority of tfre site is overlain by a one
(1) foot layer of silty topsoil. The topsoil has been penetrated
by plant roots and organic matter.
•
(2) Sandy Silty C1a,Y: The clay stratum underlies the topsoil and
extends to the gravel layer below. The silty clay is plastic
and contains varying amounts of sand in its damp to moist,
natural state.
(3) Sand, Gravel and Cobbles: The gravel stratum was encountered
at depths of two and one-half (2';) to eleven (11) feet below
tire surface and extends to the bedrock below. 7tre sand and
gravel is clean, poorly graded, and contains lenses of sand.
It is estimated that the cobbles within the gravel stratum
range in size up to sixteen (16) inches in diameter,
(4) Claystone (bedrock): The bedrock was encountered below the
gravel stratum at depths of ten and one-half (10'z) to nineteen
and one-half (19';) feet below the surface and extends to
greater depths. The upper one (1) foot of the bedrock is
highly weathered; however, the underlying Claystone is firm to
dense.

0
