Smnrrwarrr ,Nartagrment P(un
Slurco Corporation will also continue to provide the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
a copy of water quality monitoring reports under its existing NPDES Permit.
SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY
Slurco Corporation will use analysis and sampling methods conforming to Colorado Regulations
for Effluent Limitations (10.1.5) and to 40 CFR Part 136.
RECORDS
Upon request of the Colorado Department of Health, Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Slurco Corporation will make available
records pertaining to the implementation of the amended SWMP for the Reclaimed Canadian
Strip Mine. The records will be kept in a log. These records will be established and maintained
by Slurco Corporation at the County Courthouse in Walden, Colorado.
BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
Slurco Corporation will coordinate applicable best management practices at its Reclaimed
Canadian Strip Mine to reduce or eliminate pollutants entering waters of the U.S. and the State
of Colorado.
Best management practices, as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, are those
schedules of activities, prohibition of practices, maintenance procedures and other management
practices including treatment requirements operating procedures and other practices to control
site runoff, spillage or leaks, sludge or waste disposal, or drainage from raw material storage
areas.
The following discussion gives the specific application of these practices at the Reclaimed
Canadian Strip Mine by Slurco Corporation and establishes these management practices to
control pollutants in stotmwater discharges. The Canadian Strip Mine site was completely
reclaimed in 1987, including removal of all buildings (all pre-fab or mobile), temporary roads,
and related facilities. Sediment control structure (except ponds 001 and 002) were also removed
in 1991. The removal of these facilities and the ceasing of operation represents a highly
significant and effective form of stotTrtwater management.
Practices to control site runoff at the Reclaimed Canadian Strip Mine have been extensive and
reflect the extent to which Slurco Corporation have worked diligently to schedule activities to
prohibit practices and to maintain procedures which restrict or prevent pollutants in public
waters. For example, in 1980 three sedimentation ponds (001, 002 and 003) were constructed
to collect mine site drainage. In 1991, sedimentation pond 003 and temporary diversion ditches
R L091 O/01-D-95f 10:56amr 6
