Mr. Peter V. 0'C for
Page 7
September 23, 1985
The ground water system to the east of the Hoosier Reef can be
characterized as a diffuse aquifer system. The water recharge is by
seepage through small joints and voids end intergranular spaces. The
movement of the water is very slow and shows little response to
changes in precipitation. When the discharge rate does rise a bit
during the spring runoff it is reflected in the amount of water that
can be observed flowing from mine edits in Akins and Cash Gulches.
The ground water that is present in these rocks probably migrates
downward and laterally through a northeast-southwest trending
fracture system. It does not, however, migrate through the Hoosier
Reef, and the use of these underground mine workings for water
storage will not disturb the prevailing hydrologic balance of the
surrounding area. The quality of water in these two separate sur-
face and ground water systems will also not be affected by storing
fresh water from Left Hand Creek in the Time end Wynona mines.
Sincerely,

Mark A. Steen
Gold Hill Ventures
MAS/rgj
Enclosure
