Page 2
This site is subject to review & permitting through the Mined
Land Reclamation Division as well as the Teller County land use
process. Consideration was made to place the site further off State
Highway # 67 so as to reduce the visual impact.
The City plans to perform reclamation once grade is achieved
so that it is ongoing while extracting gravel. This would
eliminate a huge site being visible and minimize any impact to the
surrounding property. It would help the City to reclaim as it
mines.
Currently, there are no homes on the adjacent properties
except for the Vetter ranch buildings approximately 1/2 mile away.
One objection addressed potential homesites on pieces of mining
claims. Ironically, these sites gained value for development at
the same time the City gained need for more gravel.
The plan calls for daytime operations only (barring an
unforseen emergency condition). This means 8 AM to 4 PM. The City
plans to screen and haul gravel on an average of 8 to 9 days per
month during weekdays. The noise level will be held to a minimum.
There was some question as to ownership of the site from Mr.
Vetter. The U.S. Government owns this property and has the Dept of
Interior administer it through the Bureau of Land Management. They
are issuing the City a permit/lease of this property. In the
interim, the land is subject to mineral entry until the permit
process is complete. In order to protect the title and avoid
interference from other claimants, two City employees have posted
location notices on the site. These claims are surrendered upon
completion of the permitting process.
Representatives of the City will attend the meeting with the
Board of County Commissioners to answer any questions or further
objections to the proposed site.
call.
If you have any further question, please don't hesitate to
SiPeerely,- n,,
Norma Swanson
Assistant Clerk
cc: Teller County Commissioners
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
