G-P Gypsum has performed all closure tasks as scheduled in the five year closure plan
regarding highwall removal and stabilization, re-grading operations, equipment removal, road
removal, and revegetation work. However, the establishment ofvegetation onthe steep, dry slopes
exposed during the pest five years of Smd grading, equigment and road rertloval will take additional
seasons of continued vegetative maintenance to attain a self sustaining and diverse cover of native
vegetation on,those portions of the site where appropriate. As you know, this past year is one oftbe
driest on record and Coaldale is no exception for its aearly zero moisture conditions. Vegetative
development will be minimal a+ith most labor expended in just keeping our existing seedlings alive.
Additional taiuc wdl be needed to bring the vegetative aspects at tho site to a level of minimum
standard regaidiag percent ground cover, diversity, and sustainability.
I look forward to your August visit regardmg this request.
t
Very Truly Yours,
S
Kenneth S.
