treated naphtha product from the naphtha hydrogenation unit to
form low sulfur oil which will be pipelined from the complex.
This unit also produces diesel fuel which is used for mobile
equipment in the mine and processed shale disposal areas.
NAPHTHA HYDROGENATION UNIT
The naphtha hydrogenation unit treats a stabilized raw naphtha
blend from the gas recovery and treating unit with hydrogen in
the presence of a catalyst to produce a low-sulfur, low-nitrogen
naphtha.
AMMONIA SEPARATION UNIT
The ammonia separation unit processes sour water from the naphtha
• and gas oil hydrotreaters. Liquid anhydrous ammonia is produced
as a marketable by-product. Gaseous hydrogen sulfide is removed
and sent to the sulfur recovery unit and the stripped water is
recycled to the hydrotreaters.
SULFUR RECOVERY UNIT
The sulfur recovery unit removes and recovers sulfur from the
hydrogen sulfide-rich acid gas streams which emanate from the
ammonia separation unit, the foul water stripper, and the gas
recovery and treating unit. The function of the sulfur cecovery
unit is to prevent the direct release of sulfur compounds to
the atmosphere or the release of SOZ by open flaring of acid
gases. The unit converts HZS, SO2, and organic sulfur components
into a marketable liquid sulfur by-product.
•
D-15
