refi~se haul road. As explained earlier, muddy covditioas prohibited travel into the Refuse Pood 4 area so pumping
water to the easiest access pond (Refuse Povd 2/3) was the best option. Mr. Routten agreed with our remediation plan
to treat the influent water with flocculent and ttrerby increase retention lime in both refuse ponds. Both ponds did uol
appear to settle the colloidal solids rapidly evoagh. ENACT 7883 (Alun3inum Chloride) floccvlevt was added to the
influent al both ponds and 2 small sediment catch basins were conslmcted at the influent entrance on both the east and
west side of Refuse Povd 2/3.
At approximately 10:30 am ,later in the rooming of March 2, Mr. Chervick received a call from Mr. Jim
Chubtillo ,Water Quality Control Division inspector. Mr. Chervick informed him of the situation and that all
reroedia[ion efforts were being coordinated with the Division of Minerals and Geology. Mr. Chubrillo staled that he was
satisfied with the plan and Wat Mr. Chervick should send h® and Ms. Kalemen a letter explaining the violation and
treatment plan that the Deserado Mine followed. Mr. Chen~ck agreed to document the treatment plan and to send
copies to all appropriate regulatory agencies. Thu letter, lherefore ,serves purpose of agency notification.
To dale both ponds have bcev pumped down significantly and no discharge has since occurred. The major
suowmelt event has passed and all the refuse area snow has melted. [nfluevt water to both ponds uow slowed to minimal
to zero flow.
Ryou have an}' questions wncernivg the enclosed data please contact me at (303) 675 - 8431 Exlevsioa 247.
Siu~cerely ,
l I .rye ~_~tC~
Tim Chervick,
Environmental Coordinator
Evclmure
ce: Mike Weigand
Jeff'Dubbert
Mr.Jinl Chubrillo, District Engineer, Water Quality Control Divuion
Ms. Barbara Psvlik.
