Both are important
sources of irrigation water. The flow is Terror Creek is supplemented during
periods of low flow by discharges from the Terror Creek Reservoir which is
formed by an earthen embankment.
Groundwater within the Mesaverde formation has been found to be of low
quality and limited extend. See section 2.04.7 for a thorough discussion of
the groundwater within the permit and adjacent area.
Portions of Hubbard Creek road and Terror Creek road are within the permit
boundary and adjacent area and are protected from subsidence damage by
limited extraction zones in the areas where serious damage could occur.
Numerous jeep trails cross areas of predicted substantial subsidence:
However, subsidence should not result in serious damage to the roads
provided surface fracturing and cracking does not accompany the
subsidence. Any minor damage which occurred could be readily repaired
with a grader and/or dozer.
Various access roads and trails have been constructed for past exploratory
drilling and existing hunting use. These trails are not surfaced and have
limited access and traffic. The trails are used for monitoring of
environmental resources.
The power line that parallels Terror Creek is owned by the Department of
Energy, Western PowerAdministration. It is the Curecariti-Rifle 230/345-KV
transmission line. The ROW for the line is 125 feet in width and includes
access roads. The transmission line structures are steel lattice with buried
reinforced concrete bases.
The creeks, ponds, springs, reservoir, access roads, trails and power line
alignment are shown on Map 9, Hydrologic Monitoring Location. The
location of the water rights are presented on Map 23, Water Rights Location.
The location of the lower and upper perched water bearing zones are
presented on Maps 10 and 11 respectively.
2.05 - 102 - 07/03
