EROSION CONTROL
The main source of erosion addressed in this report is from surtace run-off. The site will be fairly
well protected from both wind and water by the nature of the mining operation since only limited
areas will be disturbed at any given time, with reclamation occurring before additional areas are
' disturbed. There will be a settling pond capable of holding the 100-year run-off from this site
located on the downslope area of the site that will take several hours (12 assuming maximum
release rate for the entire duration) to empty providing time for transported sediments to settle
out. There is an additional volume (approximately 19,000 ft') of retention provided so that
additional settling may occur. The pond will outfall through a 6' PJ rigid pipe that will empty to an
area east of the pond protected by rip•rap placed on filter fabric. This water will then flow
overland to the Lemon Gulch. To reduce the amount of flows through disturbed areas, a
diversion ditch will be constructed along the upslope property line to prevent offsite flows from
flowing onsite. This ditch wilt be protected from erosion through the use of hay-bale check dams
constructed at a maximum of 50' along the flowline of the ditch. The ends of the ditch will be
~ protected by a mat of rip-rap placed on a bed of filter fabric.
SUMMARY & CONCLUSIONS
The Stevens Lease Clay Mine site will address and minimize the effects of erosion by
' -Mining in Phases to reduce the total amount of disturbed area.
-Revegetating areas where mining has been completed in coordinated phases.
-Draining all disturbed areas to the detention pond.
' -Providing check dams along the diversion ditch to limit flow velocities.
-Providing rip•rap in areas of concentrated flows.
Stormwater management will also be performed on this site affording downstream residents
additional flood protection. Therefore this mine site will not offer have any significant negative
impacts on downstream or nearby residents do to erosion or stormwater run-off.
[ll
t

l _!
1
