INTRODUCTION
This report was performed as required by Douglas County so that this site will conform to the
County's established drainage and erosion criteria. One report has been compiled for these two
systems as the stomtwater management will be provided as a consequence of the erosion
control structures.
GENERAL LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF SITE AND PROPOSED ACTIVITIES
The Stevens Lease Clay Mine is located in the NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 8, Township 7
' South, Range 66 West of the 6th Principal Meridian, Douglas County, Colorado. This site more
generally located northwest of Crowfoot Valley Road and Lemon Gulch approximately two miles
southwest of Cherry Creek, please refer to FIGURE 1 -Vicinity Map. The 100-year floodplain for
Lemon Gulch is located near the southeast comer of this site, but will not be affected by this site.
The mine site property is an approximately 40 acre parcel that will be mined for a dark red clay.
Approximately 21 acres will ultimately be mined over a period of a minimum of 10 years and will
' occur in three phases. In order to minimize negative impacts, only 5 to 10 acre areas will be
disturbed at any time as reclamation wilt proceed before additional areas are disturbed. The
post-mining land will be rangeland and wildlife habitat. The post-mining topography will be
approximately 15 feet below curent grades. The site will be graded such that it will provide
positive drainage and will not exceed slopes of 3:1.
The general mining process will be to remove the vegetation and topsoil which will be stockpiled
' for future reclamation use. Overburden material will then be excavated with a dozer and scraper
and stockpiled separately for future backfill material. After each area of approximately 1 acre
has had the clay layer removed, the overburden stockpiled material will be back-filled into the
excavated pit. The stockpiles should be placed on a stable surface and temporarily seeded with
' a native seed mixture to minimize erosive actions on the stockpiles. Details of the mining
operation and the reclamation process as well as other impacts of this mine can be found in the
Application For Douglas County Use By Special Review Permit Denver Brick Company Stevens
Lease Clay Mine dated January 8, 1996 and submitted by AGRA Earth 8 Environmental, Inc., a
portion of the text from this application is included in the appendix of this drainage and erosion
control study.

1
~l
1

L1
