Dept. 04 Natural Resources
Dear Jim:
Flatiron Paving Company c,~ould like to request that bond for the Chambers Pit be
set at $35,000 annually. This represents the maxi3mmt cost that mould be incurred
at any given time to reclaim the site.
As you know, the county has set fairly tight limits on how much land can be disturbed
at one time because the pit is so close to the twm of Eagle. This means that there
will never be a large liability for reclamatiai. Flatiron must reclaim mined areas
as quickly as possible in onier to continue excavation. This pattern is reinforced
by the needs of the landowner, who is eager to return his land to production as
soon as he can. The mining project is actually a land leveling project to increase
the efficiency of his irrigation systan.
Maximum land disturbance should involve the following costs:
Type of Disturi~ance Reclamation Required Acreage Cost Per Acre Zbtal Cost
Plant site, etc, leveling/tnpsoiling/ 10 $1525 $15,250
reseeding
Active mining leveling/topsoiling/
reseeding
Area A 5 1591 $ 7,955
Area B 5 1525 7,625
~bpsoil stripping Fevegetation - Area C 3 66 198
Reclaimed areas additional reseeding 10 66 660
awaiting bond release
rux;,m,m total oust $31,688
10~ administration 3,169
34,857
TOPAL BOND $35,000
