ANACONDA Minerals Company
555 Seventeenth Street
Denver, Colorado 80202
Telephone 107 575 4000
•
January 10, 1983
Mr. Robert Liddle
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Bob:

Reference is made to MLR Inspection Report dated December 8,
1982. Part IY of the report entitled Problems Recommendations
and Compliance Data stated that West Elk oa ompany must submit
a revised sediment control plan for the equipment storage yard
(also referred to as the U.S. Steel Lay-down Area) at the Mt.
Gunnison Mine.
Use of the lay-down area was approved by the CMLRD on
• October 16, 1981 as a technical revision to Permit No. C-007-80.
The approval allowed West Elk Coal Company to increase the
existing permit area by ten acres for use as a temporary lay-down
area during construction. The technical revision is hereby
incorporated by reference. See attached Figure 3.1.8.b for a
description of the lay-down area. During use of the lay-down
area, approximately six acres were disturbed.
Since construction of Mt. Gunnison has essentially been
completed, use of the lay-down area as described in the October
16 permit revision is no longer necessary. As such approximately
4.5 acres of tke disturbed area was reclaimed in October, 1982.
Thus only about 1.5 acres of the original lay-down area as shown
in Figure 3.1.8.b remains disturbed and will be used as a parking
area. This area has been partially graveled.
Sediment control for the area disturbed during the
construction phase (and now partialiy reclaimed) must now be re-
established since the Highway Department is constructin.y a
portion of the new Highway 133 through the area previously used
`or sed ir-ent contro 1 .
The nev.• sediment control plan will essentially parallel the
cr'.ei-a1 plan described in the October 1921 revision, but will ~e
GG.cd ap~"~Xim ate ly' .2 C. feet SG,1 t', ..arC.
