• Flow Characteristics <br />Estimates of potential average annual water yield from the watershed, <br />by Grunsky's Formula (Grunsky, 1908; Sellars, 1965}, yielded 202 <br />acre-feet to the White River. The presence of stock caate.ring ponds <br />will likely lower the total yield. <br />No runoff events were noted during the 1979 portion of the inventory <br />period, but three runoff events were noted during the 1980 portion <br />of the period. Scullion Gulch probably experiences little runoff <br />at its mouth because of the number of stock-watering ponds per <br />unit drainage area (an average of 0.4 ponds per square mile). <br />• Water quality in the basin is fairly similar as that found in the <br />Red Wash Basin for corresponding runoff events. Total dissolved <br />solids concentrations ranged from 180 to 488 milligrams per liter <br />from the events measured during 1980. <br />Groundwater Movement <br />Groundwater in the Scullion Gulch area is carried in both the Upper <br />and Lower Williams Fork Formations. As described previously, <br />groundwater movement in the Upper Sandstone Facies (Upper Williams <br />Fork) is from northwest to southeast. Movement of groundwater in <br />the Siltstone and Coal Facies (Lower Williams Fork) follows the <br />same general pattern of northwest to southeast. <br /> <br />4/81 <br />II.D-16 <br />
