Exhibit 5
Bowie Resources -Proposed Waste Rock Disposal Area
Baseline Vegetation Survey
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
Cedar Creek Associates, Inc. (Cedar Creek) was requested in 2003 to evaluate the vegetation
resources (plant communities) witfiin and adjacent to the potential disturbance boundaries of the
proposed Bowie Resources Waste Rods Disposal Area (WRDA) in accordance with Rule 2.04.10 of the
Colorado Revised Rules and Regulations. Most of this proposed new disturbance occurs within an
approximate 40-aue area that was mapped, but not sampled, during original baseline surveys. (A minor
amount of disturbance will occur within previously permitted /disturbed areas.) Original mapping
indicated that two plant communities (Mbced Shrubland and Juniper Woodland) occur within this
• vegetation study area. Srte-sperific surveys veriFed this finding, however, minor modification to
previously delineated boundaries were necessary (see Map Vl).
In accordance with Rule 2.04.10 as well as 4.15 subsections 7 - 10 of the Colorado Revised Rules,
and pursuant to agreements reached during phone conversations with Ms. Sandy Brown of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology (June, 2003), vegetation studies were initiated. Feld sampling for the
dirediy measurable variables of ground cover and production, as well as an indirect determination of
species composition (diversity), was systematicalty conducted within the twa communities oczupying the
proposed disturbance area as well as the established reference areas for these two types. Per agreement
with CDMG personnel, determination of woody plant density was deemed unnecessary given previously
collected baseline data and that faed-value success standards for density have been established.
Sampling was conducted from July 21 - 24, 2003 by and/or under the direct supervision of Cedar
Creek's Plant Ecologist, Mr. Erik M. Mohr; and vegetation parameters were collected from all four
designated areas. Depending on area, ground Dover was determined from up to 25 samples while
production was determined from up th 50 samples. In addition to these quantitative efforts, current
• conditions at the time of sampling were documented by several photos (see Plates Vl - Vll) to provide a
visual demonstration ofsite-conditions at the time of sampling.
CmAlt Cirmt AssoCIA76, INC.
