Changes or additions to the previous site/property description(s)
This site was recorded as a small and relatively sparse open lithic scatter
consisting of 16 pieces of debitage (Travis 1994). Current investigations confirm
the sparse nature of the artifact scatter. The site was misplotted during the
original fieldwork. The site was positively identified by locating the site datum
and comparison of the site map to the area examined. The site is well removed from
any proposed Peabody Yoast Mine impacts.
The site is located on a high point on a ridge top. Based on the location and
examination of the edge of the nearby two-track, little to no deposition is present. •
The area is wind swept and only a thin mantle of eolian deposited soil partially
covers the bedrock. Based on examination of the two-track, soil at the site is less
than 5 cm deep where present. Such a situation is well documented in the general
project area (see descriptions of shovel probes at other sites during this project:
Johnson et al. 1980; Wheeler 197<.1, 1980).
