Changes or additions to the previous site/property description(s)
This site was recorded as a sparse open lithic scatter consisting of 30 pieces
of debitage and a mono (Travis 1994). Current investigations confirm the sparse
nature of the artifact scatter. The mono was observed but no temporally diagnostic
materials were observed during current investigations. The site is located
primarily on a gentle slope above a flat floodplain on the north and below a
prepared field on the south (Figure 4). The mono is in the agricultural field and
is relatively isolated from the main site area. It may be out of context. The
majority of the artifacts are located slightly upslope and east of the datum or
between the datum and Shovel Probe ~3 (see figure 4). Based on the projectile •
point/knife fragment collected in 1992, the site may date to the Late Prehistoric
Period.
The projectile point/knife is a tan course-grained chert with side notches and
a basal notch. The flaking is relatively uniform horizontal parallel and the base
is lightly ground through the side notches. It resembles Parson Tri-notched points
(IMACS 1990) which are generally dated to between 2000 and 1500 BP. (Prison 1991).
