Changes or additions to the previous site/property description(s)
This site was recorded as a sparse open lithic scatter consisting of 16 pieces of
debitage and a biface fragment (Travis 1994). Current investigations confirm the
sparse nature of the aboriginal artifact scatter. A newly discovered artifact
(tertiary flake) expanded the site boundary to the south and a projectile
point/knife fragment was located (Figure 3). Both of these artifacts are white
chert. The projectile point/knife is a medium to large sized corner notched
artifact. Too little of the artifact remains for clear temporal affiliations to be
determined. It could date to any time between the Late Archaic and the Late
• Prehistoric Periods.
The site is located in a borrow pit area (see Figure 3). The pit is over a
meter deep on the north side. Other borrow areas are present all along the road
which is south of the site. This road appears to have been a haul road for the
existing strip mine southwest of the site area. It is wide and had been constructed
in a cut/fill manner such that it is relatively level. The debitage that expanded
