Plant Products: coal
Present Production Rate: 2.2 million tons/year
Design Production Rate: 2.6 million tons/year
Raw Materials: coal
~. Briefly describe the process steps used in producing the product. Include
a process flow diagram and a discussion of chemicals used at the site and
their final disposition. State the final disposal of all wastewater
streams.
-Coal is mined, then transported to the adjacent Craig Generating Station.
No coal crushing or washing is done on site. The coal is crushed at the
power plant. The only chemical used is magnesium chloride, for dust
suppression on the roads. The permittee has performed monitoring for
magnesium and chloride on the effluents in the past, and no increase in
either parameter has been shown.
-There is also an industrial waste pond on site. This waste pond receives
runoff from the truck fueling ares snd the shop area, wastewater from the
trucl: washing facility, and can be used to contain fuel spills from tanks.
No chemicsls are used for the truck washing.
-There is a fly ash disposal area on site, in a previously mined pit. This
is for disposal of the fly ash generated at the power plant. There are
numerous monitoring wells surrounding the dump. Runoff from the area is
contained on site. The area is separately permitted through the Flazardous
Materials and Waste Management Division, and so no further discussion is
warranted here.
6. What containment does the permittee have for materials used, processed or
stored on site?
-Packed earth berms are used for the fuel storage tanks.
,are additional controls necessary?
-No.
Is the Materials Containment Plan adequate'
-1'es .
